This simple big breakfast is easy to re-create. But if you don’t feel up to cooking yourself  and just plan on running on one meal for the day, get down to Henley square and enjoy the value for money. Oh, and the sun.
Continuing on the beachside theme of previous weeks, today we ventured to another popular seaside suburb of Henley Beach. Zootz Café, located in Henley Square, 14km west of the CBD, was our breakfast destination on this sunny Friday morning. “The Square”, as the young locals like to call it, was reasonably quiet and this enabled us to sit down at one of the many free tables outside. The sea breeze was blowing but a seat in the sun, with a view of the water, provided a delightful setting.
After a quick look over the menu, the four of us, yes, we had another canine friend come along today, we were up inside ordering 3 big breakfasts and 1 vegetarian big breakfast. One of our pals hasn’t been walked for a while so he is a big worried about his weight. The standard large coffees made their way out to the table first and while they were reasonably enjoyable, we wouldn’t rush back anytime soon just for a caffeine hit.
Our usual conversation of nothing important at all was flowing and we continued to pretend to our guest that this was a just a casual breakfast and that the camera was only there to help us with our applications for next years Royal Show parade. The conversation was halted as we caught eye of the size of plates that were making their way towards us. The friendly staff even had to make multiple trips to get all the meals out. Unfortunately, our excitement was subdued slightly when we got stuck in. Even though it was quite tasty, it was, for lack of a better word, plain. Loaf bread, albeit 4 slices of it, was accompanied by what looked like tinned bake beans, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, spinach, tomato and hash browns. Avocado was not inclusive and we must of been enjoying the sun too much and forgot to add it. The quantity wasn’t the problem here; the value for money is excellent. It was the quality. It felt more like a breakfast we would cook up ourselves on a Sunday morning after a big night out chasing tail. And, no, this time, not our own.

Quality aside, Zootz Café came in at a MASTIFF on the Big Dog Brekky Blog rating scale, the highest ranking so far. We love a good challenge when it comes to breakfast and we sure got one this morning. It even proved too much of a challenge for one of us, who called on the help of his pal who had already knocked off his vegetarian dish and decided to embrace, rather than shy away from the little big extra weight he is carrying, to help out a friend. The location is almost unbeatable and, although we didn’t get to sample anything else, the rest of the menu looks quite extensive. So if you don’t feel up to cooking yourself and just plan on running on one meal for the day, get down to Henley square and enjoy the sun.

Woof!
